Aquaman and Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa wasn’t always sleeping with his fish kingdom or with the Queen of Dragons. Not that long ago, the actor slept only in the back of a van.

The 39-year old recently posted a throwback image on Instagram of himself lying on an air mattress in the back of a U-Haul. Taken in Ireland, Momoa says he was “too broke to fly home” after a Game of Thrones shoot.

In his caption, Momoa reflects that he “treasures those times” and that “It was the simplest moments I remember the most.”

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

According to Momoa, since they couldn’t afford to fly home, he and his friend Brian Mendoza decided to road trip around Ireland. The picture was taken by Mendoza as the two drove around the country in search of the best pint of Guinness.

“Turns out it’s perfect everywhere,” wrote the actor.

His appreciation makes sense, as he can relate wholly to the beverage’s famous slogan: “Good Things Come To Those Who Wait”.

Breakout Career Moment

Of course, Momoa’s role in Game of Thrones is seen as that which jump-started his career.

Since the series has come to an end, he and several other actors have posted tributes online. Many fondly remember the time they spent filming the HBO show.

Since his stint as Dothraki chieftain Khal Drogo, Momoa has gone on to star in plenty of other major projects. Now, he’s just as well known as DC’s Aquaman.

It wasn’t as easy as one might think to go from a role on GoT to securing a spot in the DC Extended Universe.

Overcoming Hurdles

As Khal Drogo, Momoa didn’t speak English. Rather, his lines were all delivered in the fictional language of Dothraki.

He mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2017, that while one gets “a lot of respect for Game of Thrones,” that it wasn’t exactly easy to find roles afterwards.

He also mentioned it was “brutal” how he couldn’t talk publicly about Aquaman for months after he secured the role.

Of course, though he struggled for a while, it seems he’s doing much better now. Among other projects, he’s starred in Frontier and will be appearing in the movie Dune next year.
